On a area, about 52 ha, a new crosstation for (inter-)national fastrail arises, just north of hollands main station, Utrecht CS, which causes serious problems on the railnet when logistic troubles occur.
Developed with Utrecht CS as 'twinstation', based on ''Transit Orientated Developement, a huge number of square metres housing and trading is planned on this area (Cartesius).
As spil for the area, the crosstation is situated in the heart of a X-shape, with mainly offices on top of shops, which all together create and accentuate the gesture of 'The Spil'. Lines/platforms N-S are situated 10- underneath (thunnel), lines/platforms W-E on 10+ straight through the building. The station square is literally cut away by bows, which underline the flow and connection of all four 'offices'-tentacles above the heart, the station underneath. Parking for about 8.000 cars, plus guarded bicycleparking, is situated underground. Direction N-S next of the thunnel, direction W-E underneath the building.
This gave birth to directly connecting them with the platforms, the station and the station-square. But also to the enormous portals, on which the whole building 'hangs'. A high-frequent lightrailsystem connects the station with Utrecht CS, runs on 5+ through the portals and offices and meets Utrecht CS just under the roof of it's station hall.
